Community Fundraising Campaign
Welland Canal Fallen Workers Memorial
A long-awaited memorial to honour 137 workers who lost their lives building the fourth Welland Canal through Niagara is seeking your support.
This is a Community Fundraising Campaign to raise $50,000 for the memorial and parkette to be installed beside Lock 3 at the Welland Canal Centre in St. Catharines.
The Welland Canal Fallen Workers Memorial is a uniquely beautiful memorial and parkette designed by Toronto-based artist Dereck Revington. It will be a special place for families of the fallen to remember their loved ones. It will be a special place for the community to reflect on the history and significance of the Welland Canal – an engineering marvel connecting the Great Lakes, two nations, and providing passage for thousands of vessels each year.
The fundraising goal for the memorial is $1.2 million. With support from the Department of Canadian Heritage, the marine industry, local businesses and labour, we have raised more than $700,000 to date. We are seeking $50,000 through the Community Fundraising Campaign to construct the memorial in 2017.
Your donation will honour the fallen.
